The mythical Agence France-Presse, also known by its acronym AFP, is launching for the first time in its history in non-fungible tokens (NFT). On November 5, three different NFTs, each with their own story, will be auctioned.
AFP continues with the first sale of NFT in its history
Agence France Presse (AFP)the oldest news agency in the world, launches in non-fungible tokens (NFT).
More specifically, AFP will soon be exhibiting a collection of 200 photos from October 26 to November 5. This exhibition takes place at the Ellia Art Gallery, in the Marais district of Paris.
These photos are from the collection of the agency and illustrate historical moments such as the First World War, the first voice of French women or the fire of Notre-Dame. This collection, called “From silver to iconic”, will be auctioned at the end of the exhibition on November 5.
It is in this context that AFP will also launch its first NFT sale in collaboration with laCollection.io, also a partner of the British Museum.
In this case these are: three non-fungible tokenswhich will be sold with their paper format:
- The first AFP message dates from August 20, 1944;
- A photo of Serge Gainsbourg burning a 500 franc note;
- The photo of Bernie Sanders, on a chair, bundled up in his jacket and gloves during Joe Biden’s inauguration.

The benefits for future buyers:
In addition to a signed premium print, future buyers benefit from other benefits. In particular, they will be entitled to a private conversation with photographers Philippe Wojazer and Brendan Smialowski. Otherwise, a visit to the AFP archive will be offered, as well as the agency’s exhibition catalog and yearbook, which includes all the highlights of the year.
The purpose of this auction is to raise money to ensure that restore and protect the agency’s photographic heritage.
Marielle Eudes, director of special photo projects at AFP, spoke about this openness to the blockchain:
